Wallflex Flexible Furniture

Flexible furniture with Wallflex rods to equip the bed

Wallflex equipping the bed, is a design project that studies the concept of decontextualization of traditional furniture. The model presented responds to a condenser scheme attached to a perforation in an orthogonal distribution grid. This allows the incorporation of our construction element (rods), which under a previous study of control of ranges of height and depth allows us to establish various variants without compromising the integrity and functionality of the same, redistributing and equalizing the space so that the spectrum is broadened. of uses and the degree of intimacy of the cabin depending on its location as a bed equipment.

Flexible furniture project

The average height of the human being is around 1.75-1.80 m. Considering this factor allows us to rationalize and materialize the different possibilities that furniture offers, understood as a flexible and functional two-sided entity, always directly linked to the bed in one of them. Wallflex equipping the bed will generate a hierarchy of the rods in the furniture based on the function to be performed in it, respecting in all cases the main function of the bed, sleeping. By design criteria based on the dimensions and depth of the current furniture, rods of 0.72 and 0.42 m are used which, saving the thickness of the wall, will be reduced to 0.6 and 0.3 m respectively.

From the previous modulation studies, a study of the typical pieces of furniture that a hotel room demands is continued. Taking as reference the real dimensions of said furniture and considering the constructive decision to use rods of 5 cm in diameter, they will be adapted to the pattern of the grid. By linking this with the measurements of the human being, a catalog of possibilities associated with the space that the furniture colonizes is achieved.

 EVOLUTION

The development diagrams show the evolutionary process of the piece of furniture. It begins with the silting of the wall with the building elements, and through a process of gradient and filter ends in the final model that integrates the user and responds to their needs of use and employment, maintaining the sculptural and aesthetic character of the conception initial.

MATERIALITY

The ideal assembly of the furniture proposal takes as a reference the purity and warmth of the nordic furniture, in wood. However, its contemporary architecture and geometry allow it to adapt to different aesthetic configurations that respond and blend in with the architectural style of the space in which our furniture is located.

Faced with the premise of making the space more flexible and creating a catalyst device for all the necessary furniture in a room, we opted to redistribute the space of the room by creating different environments and allowing the possibility of combining sleeping with more uses.

By establishing a grid with the possibility of being changeable, and leaving aside the proposed model, the floor area that our furniture will occupy is less and consequently it will give a feeling of greater spaciousness and spatial freedom.

BUILDING

The first approach of the user does not foresee any previous instructions for use, so its own construction system will be intuitive and will facilitate interaction with it. The pieces are connected by means of anchoring plates with transparent materials (vinyl, methacrylate, polyethylene) so that the silhouette that responds to the elevation of the furniture to be used would be highlighted without destroying the aesthetics of the furniture as a whole.

Each set of pieces is designed to be functional and mobile on each side of the wall, with the exception of those that have the bed on the other side, which are fixed and permanent.
