Hostel in La Manga del Mar Menor

Arenal is conceived as a hostel that respects the landscape in La Manga del Mar Menor. Located in an empty space that has been left between urbanized areas. The distribution scheme in labyrinth and its ramifications sinks its roots in the first traditional buildings of the Mediterranean that when growing organically were forming the plot with the way the city grew. For this reason, emphasis is placed on the conception of microcosm within macrocosm.

Spaces

The project's starting point is the environment, a unique space between two seas separated by sand dunes and steppe vegetation. Spatial development is generated in layers of spaces from the most exterior and isolated to those that form the nucleus where the circulations converge.
A hotel use is proposed for the project that in turn takes into account the landscape and is integrated into it. That is why the landscape is considered as the backbone of the project. The characteristics of the site, located between two seas and with three main views, is the spatial diversity itself. For this reason, it is decided to develop a centralized and punctual model inspired by traditional Mediterranean architecture. This nucleus is divided into three layers, the outer layer is made up of room modules, the middle layer by the hotel's server spaces and the heart by a square that serves as an agora. Arenal is conceived as a respectful hostel with the landscape in La Manga del Mar Menor

Draft

The exterior level of room modules is organized into three types of room modules according to the orientation of the visualizations. That is to say, the Mediterranean Sea, this one, the Mar Menor, west and the sandy area, north. These visuals justify the orthogonal plot and the shape of the modules. Conceptually these room modules are spatially extroverted though socially introverted. In the case of the hotel server space that forms the middle layer, the orientation itself turns towards the core of the project and towards the interstitial spaces that act as the streets of the Islamic city, breaking visuals and generating spatial introversion and social extroversion. Therefore generating spatial diversity in order to promote personal interrelation. At the heart of the project, an outdoor patio space is proposed that is analogous to the Greco-Roman agora. The entire complex is spread across the site by means of paths that focus the viewer's view and promote protection and enjoyment of the environment. The way in which the architecture filters the light allows the interstitial spaces to be organized in such a way as to orient the visitor.
